Earlier this month, Sophie Simmonds joined the VAST Volunteer team on a Volunteers Management Training course. VAST is a registered charity that provides specialist services to the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sectors in Staffordshire, enabling them to help the local communities.
Spark To Your Success became a member of VAST in 2022 after meeting at the Stoke-on-Trent Youth Collective Breakfast. Impressed by the work VAST does, we approached them to ask for their advice and support on recruiting volunteers to join our team. After chatting and finding out more, they invited Sophie to attend the training course.
Held at Dudson Centre on the 9th of March, Sophie joined VAST and other external organisations for an informative training session, which provided Sophie with the knowledge on how to recruit volunteers, how to support them and what we need at Spark’s offices to accommodate a volunteer team. VAST provided Sophie with plenty of resources to create the documents needed for recruiting, and we are eager to put everything in place and begin recruiting and helping the wider communities.
Once the documents have been created, we’ll sit down and discuss the desired skills we’re looking for in volunteers, so we can establish an ideal role description to kick off the recruitment process. By taking on new recruits, we can increase our staffing capacity and, in turn, build strong relationships with the local community and expand our support further afield.
By growing a dedicated team, we can run more projects to support young people who need it. The more opportunities we have, the bigger our presence can be in the local and wider communities, offering positive projects and resources for young people to benefit from.
Thank you to VAST for the fantastic training course!
